We are recruiting for a Production Manager to work for our client who are an established rolling stock refurbishment and maintenance organisation in the Swansea area. With this role you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and executing production activities to deliver rolling stock services safely, on time, to specification and within agreed budgets. The role will work closely with the project management team to deliver high quality rolling stock solutions to the UK rail industry.
This role requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and customers.
The ideal candidate:
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
- Rail industry production leadership experience
- Strong leadership experience in workshop environments is essential
- Knowledge of legal and industry requirements relating to health, safety and quality
- Knowledge of ISO standards and railway standards
- Experience in budget control, resource planning and performance management
- Proficiency in MS office and production management tools
- Understanding of audits and client interfacing
- Must be willing to travel to other sites with clean UK driving licence
- Lean manufacturing / continuous improvement training advantageous.
Main Duties:
- Plan and organise the ongoing vehicle service exams prioritising work in order of safety, reliability, and customer requests
- Working with the Project Managers to lead in the development and implementation of production schedules, resource plans and work allocation for planned maintenance in accordance with the customer’s requirements
- Plan and draw up an implementation schedule for the required work, producing daily/weekly or as agreed, regular reports showing progress vs. plan
- Provide technical support to the technicians and team leaders
- Liaise with health and safety, quality and engineering departments, client, and other key stakeholders to deliver the vehicles for passenger service in line with the agreed plan.
- Produce specific implementation plans for more complex tasks where there is a significant impact or risk to daily operations of the vehicles
- Monitor the production processes and adjust schedules as needed
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental management regulations
- Work with site management to organise supplier or other third-party site attendance to undertake specialist repairs
- Collate and analyse data, generating production reports for the project
- Working with the Materials Manager, ensure stock levels remain at adequate levels to support all maintenance and modification work undertaken on the vehicles
